Colorado, and a day with no problems! (Day 11)

Not to ruin the surprise, but we finally had a day without any tire problems!!!!!! Sorry, I just had to get that out of the way!

I spent a couple hours this morning going through pictures and updated the blog while I waited for Shenee to wake up. We left the Gateway Arch in Kearney at around 1030 and I stopped to get gas before getting on the interstate. A couple who had passed us on the highway a couple of times in the last few days came over, and was super excited to have finally found the tiny house. I spent about 15 minutes chatting with them, before getting underway.

The morning started out with a bit of a tailwind, which makes a huge difference in gas mileage. The tailwind soon turned into a crosswind, which surprisingly didn’t affect the tiny house as much as I expected. It was definitely easier to handle than a tractor trailer barreling past me.

After about 3 hours, we stopped for fuel again, and then exited I-80 onto I-76 which heads to Denver. From there it was only a few miles to the Colorado border, and we stopped to take some pictures at the welcome sign. The pictures have a pretty dramatic feeling to them, as a large thunderstorm was brewing just to the southwest. It looked like we were going to be headed right into it. A quick check of the radar showed that we would probably skirt just to the north of the storm. We had a quick little sprinkle, but that was it.

From there, it was smooth, and almost entirely straight sailing to Denver. Eventually, the Rocky Mountains came into view. Oh how I love driving up to Front Range! It never gets old! We stopped at a truck stop about 30 miles outside the city to contemplate our next move. I found a Park ‘n’ Ride about 10 miles outside of Boulder, and figured that would be a good base camp for a few days will Shenee figures out her job situation. At this point it doesn’t make sense to go any further until we have a destination in mind. Luckily, we are in an awesome spot, with plenty of options for adventures. I think tomorrow we will make the hour drive up to Rocky Mountain National Park!
