Iowa and more tire trouble (Day 9)
I was up at 7:30 this morning and went into the rest area to use their internet. Shenee found me at around 9:00 and we spent an hour or so looking at potential assignments for her. The one she was hoping to get in Montana was given to someone with more experience, and unfortunately it seems to be slim pickings out west right now for assignments. She has put in for an assignment in the Denver, CO area as well as near Albuquerque, NM. Not knowing where we are going to end u

Onward to Chicago (Day 8)
It's hard for me to believe that we have already been on the road for 7 days and have only made it to Chicago. I've driven across the country quite a few times, and it usually only takes 2-3 days max. My last trip was from Bangor, ME to Denver, CO and it only took 34 hours. I must say, this relaxed pace is a quite a bit nicer. I do enjoy being able to have a bed to sleep in at night! I was up at 7am today and immediately got in the car, and drove over to the tire place wh

On to Pittsburgh (Day 5)
I woke up around 7:30 this morning, and luckily the weather had cooled off and dried out at some point in the night. Neither of us slept very well, but setting the fan up did help. Yesterday at dinner my sister told me that her car battery was dead and that she hadn’t been able to drive it for a couple of weeks. She said if she left it parked for more than a day, it didn’t have enough juice to start the car. I figured it had a parasitic drain, so I went and picked up a new

It's finally happening!! (Day 1, Part 1)
I woke up this morning with two thoughts. One, that today was finally the day that I've been working toward for the past year, the day that the Wicked Tiny House finally hits the road. Two, that I still had quite a bit to do before we left! As soon as I was up, I was running around knocking off odds and ends. Cleaning up the backyard, cleaning up the driveway, consolidating and packing the rest of my clothes into the house, and consolidating everything else that I wanted t

Weigh in!
Most people are curious how much the house weighs, and when they ask, I always make them guess, because I'm a huge pain in the butt. Guesses have ranged from a low of 6,000 to a high of 20,000. I actually didn't know how much the Wicked Tiny House weighed for 8 months! In June of this year, I finally decided that I needed to know how much the house weighed, so I took it on its first road trip down to Dysart's Truck Stop in Hermon, where they have a public scale. It's a ho

Trailer Brakes (and other adventures in welding) Part 1
When I bought the Wicked Tiny House shell, it didn't have brakes, which I knew. What I didn't know, was how much of a pain in the butt it was going to be to put brakes on it. The trailer sits on two 6,000 pound re-purposed mobile home axles. The previous owner did replace the bearings, but he did not take the time to install brakes. This style of mobile home axle originally came with non-serviceable brakes, and although the original brakes had previously been removed, the
